Season Ends in Tight Game

The season ended in appropriate fashion in a one point loss to Triple Threat. The Wild Turkeys trailed with 1 second to go, and Brant was fouled, sending him to the line for 2 free throws. Needless to say, things didn't go as planned and the Turkeys dropped their last game.

The season had its share of ups and downs. Injuries and absences contributed to the fall of the Turkeys after they came out of the gates hot. A final record of 3-7 isn't very good, but a few of their losses were very close games.

We'll be back on the court next year after each Turkey shoots 1,000 free throws in the offseason.

Turkeys Roll Over

After a few good efforts on the court the last few weeks, the Wild Turkeys lose to the 1-7 Ingenix squad. This drops the Turkeys to 3-6 with only one game remaining.

Since I wasn't in attendance, this recap will be brief, but I heard we only scored 26 points. This isn't unheard of for this streaky-shooting team, but this came against the worst team in the league. It seems that softball fever has hit a little early this winter.

On the bright side, the Wild Turkeys will register for softball on Monday.

Das Boot

Player/Coach Tom Bequette received news Friday morning that he tore his Achilles tendon and will be out for the season. He's already equipped with a boot that looks similar to this, and he'll remain in it for the next month.

He hopes to be fully rehabbed in time for the 2010 Wild Turkey Softball season.

Turkeys Return to Old Ways

The Turkeys lost to Park Tavern on Wednesday night in the late game by double digits. The Turkeys kept it close until the last 10 minutes of the game, when their shooting went even colder. They couldn't get any momentum offensively in a return to the form seen in previous losses in the season.

In other grim news, Player/Manager Tom Bequette suffered a potentially season-ending Achilles tendon injury when some fattie stepped on his heel. Updates will follow once I see a doctor.

This loss drops the Turkeys to 3-4 with only 3 games remaining. With the league title out of the question, the Turkeys basketball squad will look to finish with dignity and an above-.500 record.

Turkeys Fall In OT But Gain Moral Victory

In what was one of the most suprising results of the season, the Turkeys lost 62-58 to the Benchwarmers in overtime. The surprise is that the game was against the Silver division-leading Benchwarmers and that it wasn't a blowout, despite the Turkeys missing PG and all-around gentleman, Jared.

The Benchwarmers starters averaged around 6'3", and featured one guy who was at least 6'7". Not only were they tall, but their big men could shoot from outside the paint.

The game started off with the Benchwarmers taking a 10-0 lead in the first minute and a half. However, the Turkeys got the spark they needed when Tom was selflessly dunked upon. Since dunking is illegal in our league, the Turkeys got 2 points and the ball, putting the game at 10-5. The Turkeys shot the best they have all season, and fought to a 6 point halftime deficit.

At the beginning of the second half, the Turkeys continued their remarkable shooting. So much, in fact, that the Benchwarmers had to switch to man-to-man defense. At one point in the second half, the Turkeys were down by 12, but they managed to storm back by playing aggressive defense and finding the open man in the paint.

In the final seconds, with the Turkeys down 2, Drew hit a floater over one of their gargantuans to tie the game, forcing overtime. Unfortunately the Turkeys came up short in OT, but the consensus was that we had a blast.

THE TURKEYS COVER THE SPREAD!! THE TURKEYS COVER! THE TURKEYS COVER!

Hopefully we take the momentum and hot shooting gained from this game and make a run at the top of the standings.
